Member Meetings

There is an Annual Meeting every Autumn open to all members where the board reports on Wakai's activities.

Chakai (Tea Gathering)

Chakai are tea gatherings held mostly for Wakai members. Hatsugama (Celebration of New Year), Rikyuki (Commemoration of Rikyu, the founding master of Urasenke tea tradition), Shoburo (the first kettle of the summer season), Summer Tea, Robiraki (Celebration of Opening of Sunken Hearth).

Kyojo (Certificate)

By becoming a Wakai member, you will be eligible to receive Kyojo (certificates) to study tea procedures. Kyojo can be achieved through Urasenke certified teachers that are a part of the Urasenke recognized associations.

Workshop

Workshops such as Kagetsu Study, Kaiseki Workshops are offered to members who study Chado to pursue deeper and focused study for specific procedures or aspects of Chado.

GUEST ACTIVITIES

Guest Night

Wakai offers an opportunity to experience tea for members and non-members. Reservation and participation fees are required. For more details, please visit our Guest Night page.

Presentation

Upon request, Wakai offers tea presentations at locations such as the Portland Japanese Garden.
